Pet Home Farewell
Peaceful Pet euthanasia
I believe that your pet deserves to experience his/her final moments in a familiar and loving environment, with you and your family by their side, free from stress and anxiety. Understanding how the procedure is performed may help you in the decision.
On the day of the appointment, you will be asked to sign a consent form which gives your permission for the veterinary surgeon to proceed.
To ensure calm and serenity in the final moments of your pet we will first give a sedation by an injection under the skin. This will allow you time to hold and comfort your friend while he/she gently falls asleep. It can take anywhere between 10 and 20 minutes to take effect but this is a calm and gentle process with very rarely any unwanted side effects.
Once your pet is calm and relaxed euthanasia will then be carried out by giving an injection, usually into a vein on a front leg. If your pet is very old or frail, or if the blood circulation is poor, the vet may inject into another area of the body. As the solution is injected, the patient loses consciousness and within one or two minutes the heart stops.
Please remember that your pet will remain at all times heavily sedated, pain-free, and unaware of the procedure.

Aftercare Options
Home Burial
Please check with your local authorities as to the regulations applying to home pet burial. It must be at least 3 feet below the surface to avoid your pet being dug up by wild animals.
Pet Cremation
You can make your own arrangements at a crematorium of your choice. We can also, on your behalf, arrange cremation at Cherry Tree Pet Crematorium (https://petcrem.com/) where you can be assured that your pet will be handled with dignity and respect.
Private cremation
This will be a truly private procedure as your pet will be the only pet within the cremation chamber and the ashes will be returned to you.
Communal cremation
Your pet is cremated with a few other pets. The cremains will not be returned to you but will be scattered at the Pet Crematorium.
